President Alimi Highlights Progress in Yemen’s Security and Services

Significant Advances in Security and Services

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced that state institutions are making substantial progress in unifying security and military decisions. This improvement comes with generous support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During a meeting with ambassadors from countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen, President Alimi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing basic services in liberated provinces.

Efforts to Unify Security Decisions

President Alimi detailed the government’s serious steps to unify security and military decisions. These measures include the withdrawal of armed forces from the temporary capital of Aden and other provincial capitals. He noted that this initiative had faced delays for years, even after the signing of the Riyadh Agreement in November 2019.

Closing Illegal Prisons

The president also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to close all illegal prisons. He stated that the National Commission for Investigation of Allegations of Human Rights Violations is now empowered to carry out its fieldwork as an independent body with international support.

Improvements in Basic Services

In terms of services, President Alimi reported rapid improvements in liberated provinces, particularly in Aden. Electricity generation has increased from just two hours a day to approximately 14 hours. Additionally, government institutions are now committed to supplying the Central Bank, reflecting the positive impact of state stability on citizens’ lives.

Support from Saudi Arabia

President Alimi confirmed that Saudi Arabia has completed the payment of salaries for all military formations previously funded by Abu Dhabi. Furthermore, Saudi support has bolstered the public sector budget and initiated service and development projects in several provinces, costing nearly two billion Saudi Riyals.

Political Dialogue Preparations

On the political front, President Alimi noted that preparations are underway for a Southern Dialogue, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, which will include various Southern components without exclusion. He asserted that filling vacancies in the Presidential Leadership Council and appointing a new prime minister and governor for Aden demonstrates the smooth decision-making process and the restructuring of state institutions in accordance with the constitution and the power transfer announcement.

Concerns Over UAE Reaction

President Alimi expressed surprise at the UAE’s reaction to the efforts to unify security decisions. He pointed out that the experience has shown that dual security decisions and multiple loyalties do not eliminate terrorism; instead, they perpetuate it. He referenced serious violations uncovered after the end of the UAE presence, including torture and enforced disappearances.

Call for International Support

The president reiterated that the roots of Yemen’s suffering trace back to the Houthi coup, supported by the Iranian regime. He urged the international community to shift from crisis management to actively contributing to a resolution by supporting the legitimate government in asserting its authority and ensuring accountability.

Meeting Attendees

The meeting included Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and Mustafa Naaman, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
