On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin to discuss the bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States. The meeting focused on future prospects and ways to strengthen ties across various levels.
During their discussion, the two leaders addressed the latest developments in Yemen. They exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, particularly the ongoing efforts to protect maritime corridors. They also highlighted the need to deter attacks from the Iranian-backed Houthi militias on international shipping routes and vessels.
President Alimi praised the strong bilateral relations with the United States. He acknowledged the U.S. role in enforcing the ban on Iranian arms smuggled to the Houthi militias. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of cutting off the funding sources that support the group’s terrorist activities.
The President reiterated the urgent need for a collective global approach to support the Yemeni government in addressing economic and humanitarian challenges. He stressed the importance of enhancing the government’s capabilities to combat terrorism and organized crime while securing Yemen’s regional waters. This collaboration is vital for maintaining international peace and security.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting.
