President Alimi Meets with European Ambassadors to Discuss Yemen's Challenges

On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Gabriel Monera Vinales, the European Union’s ambassador to Yemen, along with ambassadors from Germany, France, and the acting Dutch ambassador.

Addressing National Developments and Humanitarian Needs

During the meeting, President Alimi briefed the European diplomats on the current national situation. He emphasized the urgent need for European intervention to support Yemen’s struggling economy and alleviate the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and maritime shipping vessels.

U.S. Designation of Houthi Militias as Terrorist Organization

The discussion also covered the recent decision by the U.S. administration to reclassify Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization. President Alimi highlighted the importance of international cooperation in implementing similar punitive measures. He argued that such actions serve as a peaceful option to cut off funding and arms supplies to the militias, while also enforcing relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

Commitment to Humanitarian Coordination

President Alimi reassured the humanitarian community of his commitment to coordinating with international partners. He stressed the need to direct the implications of the terrorist designation towards its intended targets without harming vulnerable social groups or disrupting essential food and life-saving commodity imports.

Learning from Past Experiences

The President urged the international community to learn from past disappointments in dealing with Houthi militias. He cautioned against falling for their misleading narratives regarding their destabilizing ideology, which threatens both Yemen’s stability and international peace and security.

Attendees of the Meeting

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, contributing to the discussions on Yemen’s pressing issues.

This meeting underscores the ongoing efforts to address Yemen’s multifaceted challenges and the critical role of international support in fostering stability and humanitarian relief in the region.
