Aden’s Strategic Importance
Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasized the need to prioritize road projects in Aden, the country’s temporary capital. He highlighted Aden’s role as a central administrative and service hub, stressing the importance of addressing both primary and secondary road projects simultaneously.
Meeting with the Roads and Bridges Maintenance Fund
This statement came during a meeting on Monday with Engineer Hussein Al-Aqrobi, the newly appointed head of the Roads and Bridges Maintenance Fund. This meeting marked Al-Aqrobi’s first engagement since his appointment.
Infrastructure Plans and Key Projects
During their discussion, the two officials reviewed the fund’s upcoming plans and the status of vital infrastructure projects. They identified several initiatives requiring urgent, medium, and long-term interventions. Notable projects include the maintenance and restoration of the coastal corniche in Aden, the international coastal road connecting Aden, Hadramout, and Al-Mahra, as well as the crucial Al-Abar to Safer road. Additionally, they discussed the military to Habail Al-Jabr road, which serves as a major artery linking Aden to Lahij and other provinces. Al-Mahrimi underscored the fund’s essential role in enhancing and maintaining the road network to support stability and development.
Weigh Stations and Road Safety
The meeting also addressed the issue of weigh stations for measuring truck loads and regulating violators. Al-Mahrimi stressed the necessity for these stations to meet high technical specifications and accuracy standards. He noted their critical role in preserving road safety and protecting citizens from accidents linked to deteriorating infrastructure.
Importance of Coordination
Al-Mahrimi pointed out the need for prior coordination between the Roads Maintenance Fund, local authorities, and all service entities in liberated provinces before initiating any maintenance or construction projects. He warned that a lack of coordination could lead to road re-excavation after repairs due to subsequent work on water or sewage networks. This situation results in wasted resources, service disruptions, and negatively impacts the efficiency and sustainability of infrastructure.
Commitment to High Standards
In response, Engineer Al-Aqrobi expressed his gratitude to Al-Mahrimi for his support of the fund. He reaffirmed the fund’s commitment to executing projects according to prioritized needs and adhering to the highest technical standards. This approach aims to enhance infrastructure efficiency and serve citizens across various provinces.
The discussions between Al-Mahrimi and Al-Aqrobi signal a renewed focus on improving Aden’s road infrastructure. By prioritizing these projects and ensuring effective coordination, the leadership aims to foster stability and development in the region.
