On Tuesday, the Central Quranic Competition commenced in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. The event is organized by the Quran Memorization Sector of the Ministry of Awqaf and Guidance.
Eighty participants, who qualified through preliminary rounds held over three days in various provinces, will compete in several categories. These include Quran recitation, memorization for both senior and junior memorizers, and the call to prayer (adhan).
Sheikh Hassan Al-Sheikh, the Deputy of the Quran Memorization Sector, commended the engagement of Quran memorizers from the provinces during the preliminary rounds. He emphasized that this active participation significantly contributed to the success of the competitions.
Sheikh Hassan highlighted the importance of such competitions organized and sponsored by the ministry. They aim to select outstanding Quran memorizers to represent Yemen in international contests. He also acknowledged the efforts of the committees that played a vital role in advancing the competition to this stage.
Winners of the central competition will have the honor of participating in the “Iqra wa Ratil” competition, which will be broadcast on television during the holy month of Ramadan. Sheikh Hassan called for increased efforts to complete the competition stages and achieve its intended goals.
Sheikh Ahmed Bahkeem, the head of the judging committee, outlined the competition’s structure, rules, and scoring system. He urged participants to adhere to the competition guidelines to ensure a fair and successful event.
This year’s Central Quranic Competition not only showcases the talents of Yemen’s Quran memorizers but also fosters a spirit of unity and dedication to the teachings of the Quran.
