On Tuesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, convened a government session at the Maashiq Palace in Aden. Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Brek attended the meeting.

Renewed Congratulations and Expectations

At the start of the session, President Al-Alimi congratulated Prime Minister Bin Brek on earning the trust of political leadership. He expressed his hopes for the Prime Minister and his cabinet members to succeed in their significant national responsibilities.

A Call for Accountability and Action

President Al-Alimi emphasized the importance of self-reflection among government officials. He urged them to align their actions with the legitimate aspirations of the resilient Yemeni people, who deserve a proactive government. He stated, “This moment calls for a candid confrontation with your responsibilities and the expectations of our people.”

Major National Tasks Ahead

The President outlined the government’s primary mission, which includes institutional building, economic recovery, and completing the fight for liberation. He stressed the need for self-reliance as a pathway to resilience and sustainable cohesion.

The Importance of Aden

President Al-Alimi highlighted Aden’s central role in institutional development and economic recovery. He insisted that the city, as the temporary capital and decision-making center, should be a top priority for the government. He described it as a gateway for partnerships with the world.

Stability and Accountability

The President underscored the necessity of maintaining stability within the government as a hallmark of seriousness and credibility. He noted that this stability would enhance oversight, accountability, and trust with the donor community. He praised government members who remain active within the country, stating that a minister’s true place is alongside the citizens.

Securing State Resources

President Al-Alimi urged the government to secure and develop public resources to ensure timely salary payments for employees and improve services. He asserted that economic improvement requires a comprehensive recovery plan, including a constitutional state budget and realistic austerity measures to optimize public spending.

Supporting the Central Bank

The President reaffirmed his support for the independence of the Central Bank, empowering it to manage monetary policy effectively. He called for measures to curb inflation and strengthen the national currency.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships

President Al-Alimi directed the government to enhance partnerships with the private sector, allowing it to lead vital development projects. This approach would alleviate the burden on the state in creating job opportunities and mitigating humanitarian suffering.

Combating Corruption

The President also emphasized the need to activate oversight mechanisms and combat corruption. He called for the swift establishment of a high committee for tenders to restore accountability principles.

Organizing Local Governance

He stated that responsibility also involves organizing the relationship between central authorities and local governments. This includes reviewing structures, reducing diplomatic missions, and establishing a high relief authority to unify humanitarian efforts.

Commitment to National Unity

President Al-Alimi reiterated that the battle for liberation and the restoration of state institutions, whether through peace or conflict, remains a top priority. He described this struggle as a conflict between state and non-state actors, emphasizing the need for national unity.

A Vision for Peace

The President articulated his vision for peace, which should be based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, particularly UN Resolution 2216. He stressed that national unity and collaboration among all forces are essential for success.

Honoring the Armed Forces

President Al-Alimi paid tribute to the armed forces and security personnel defending the republican system and the aspirations of Yemenis for a state based on law and equal citizenship. He affirmed the government’s responsibility to care for military personnel and ensure their readiness.

Supporting the Judiciary

The President confirmed the Council’s and the government’s support for the judiciary, viewing it as a symbol of state presence and authority. He urged the swift establishment of a body to care for the wounded and the families of martyrs.

A Unified Media Strategy

He highlighted the need for a unified, impactful media strategy that combines enlightenment and mobilization. This strategy should expose militia projects and their external ties while fostering trust in the republican project.

Diplomatic Efforts

President Al-Alimi stressed the importance of Yemeni diplomacy and legal affairs in garnering international support and enhancing the classification of militias as terrorist organizations.

Addressing Economic Challenges

The President discussed the unprecedented challenges faced since the Houthi militia targeted oil facilities in October 2022, depriving the state of nearly $2 billion in revenue. He praised the resilience shown in thwarting the militia’s plans to plunge the country into a comprehensive humanitarian crisis.

A Call for Trust and Self-Reliance

President Al-Alimi urged the government to present Yemen as a trustworthy partner and a source of stability. He emphasized the importance of innovative thinking and building a successful model in liberated provinces to achieve self-reliance.

A Vision for the Future

He concluded by stating, “Let this be the government of self-reliance, and may victory be granted by God.”
