The local authorities in Taiz Governorate strongly condemned the indiscriminate and deliberate shelling carried out by Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime, on residential neighborhoods in the city and the villages of Sabir. This assault involved rockets and artillery shells, resulting in civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries. Such actions represent a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and civilian objects.
In a statement issued today, the local authorities also denounced the Houthi militias’ attack on an ambulance in the Al-Sarari area of the Al-Masrak district. This attack led to the death of the ambulance driver and injured several paramedics. This incident constitutes a gross violation against medical and humanitarian personnel who are fulfilling their duty to save lives and assist the injured.
The local authorities emphasized that the random shelling of residential areas and the endangerment of civilian lives, along with the targeting of ambulances and medical teams, represent a serious escalation and a grave violation of humanitarian and legal norms designed to protect civilians and medical workers during armed conflicts.
The local authorities held the Houthi militias fully responsible for these crimes and their consequences. They urged the international community, the United Nations, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take a serious stance regarding these violations. They called for urgent action to stop the indiscriminate shelling, protect civilians and residential areas, safeguard medical teams, and ensure accountability for those responsible for these crimes, thereby putting an end to impunity.
