The committee discussed the latest developments in Yemen’s economic, service, and humanitarian situations. They focused on the unprecedented military escalation in the region and its potential impacts on food supply chains, maritime shipping, and the overall conditions in the country.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister, Central Bank Governor, and committee members provided briefings on the current economic landscape. They highlighted financial and monetary indicators, as well as response plans aimed at mitigating the immediate effects of regional security developments. Key areas of concern included food, medicine, fuel supplies, and the prices of essential goods and services.
The briefings revealed reassuring indicators regarding public finances and foreign reserves. Reports indicated that stock levels remain stable, sufficient for 4 to 6 months, thanks to economic and financial interventions from Saudi Arabia.
President Alimi emphasized the importance of protecting livelihoods and the national currency. He urged the committee to minimize the country’s exposure to the economic repercussions of conflict. He stressed the need for full readiness to address any potential scenarios, ensuring the state meets its obligations, particularly in paying employee salaries and maintaining the flow of essential goods and imports.
The President directed the committee to continuously monitor and update economic plans and procedures. He called for regular reports on market indicators and stock levels. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of working closely with regional partners and international allies to secure maritime routes, supply chains, and combat terrorism and smuggling.
In this context, President Alimi expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s supportive stance alongside the Yemeni people and their leadership. He acknowledged the Kingdom’s ongoing responses to governmental challenges, including a new economic support package of 1.3 billion Saudi Riyals aimed at covering state employee salaries and bolstering economic stability and recovery.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, also attended the meeting, underscoring the collaborative efforts to address Yemen’s pressing economic and humanitarian challenges.
