Taiz Officials Mobilize Relief Efforts
Dr. Abdulqawi Al-Makhlafi, the Deputy Governor of Taiz, has directed emergency committee members to urgently assist flood victims in affected districts. The committee will organize relief convoys and establish field teams to assess the damage comprehensively.
Call for Responsibility and Action
During a recent meeting, Al-Makhlafi emphasized the need for executive office directors to demonstrate national, religious, and humanitarian responsibility in addressing these disasters. He urged immediate intervention based on available resources.
Initial Damage Reports Highlight Severity
The meeting reviewed preliminary reports detailing the flood’s impact. Tragically, the floods have claimed the lives of 15 individuals, including children and women, while nine others remain missing. The floods also caused significant damage to agricultural land, homes, wells, and livestock. In total, 5,833 families have been affected, with 2,766 homes sustaining partial damage and 1,678 homes suffering complete destruction.
Establishing Sustainable Emergency Mechanisms
The meeting underscored the importance of creating a sustainable operational framework for the emergency committee. This framework will involve coordination with various stakeholders to ensure the committee can effectively respond to all types of disasters and alleviate human suffering.
