On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, held a significant international meeting. This gathering included Council members Aidarus Al-Zubaidi and Sheikh Othman Majali, alongside U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking. High-ranking officials from the United Kingdom, France, Australia, the European Union, Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan also participated. The meeting took place during the United Nations General Assembly, which commenced on Tuesday.
During the meeting, participants reviewed recent developments in Yemen. They discussed the necessary international pressure on the Houthi militia to engage constructively with regional and international mediation efforts. The goal is to reduce tensions and launch a comprehensive political process under United Nations auspices.
The leaders also examined the ongoing economic, service, and institutional reforms led by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. They explored ways to support these reforms as a viable option to enhance peace prospects. Additionally, they aimed to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and mitigate the catastrophic humanitarian impacts of Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.
The meeting also featured the presence of Dr. Shaeib Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, alongside Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States, Mohammed Al-Hadhrami.
This international dialogue underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address the ongoing crisis in Yemen and foster a sustainable peace.
