Arab League Condemns Houthi Attacks on Government Facilities in Yemen

The Arab League has condemned the recent attacks carried out by Houthi militias on the Maashiq Palace, the headquarters of the Yemeni government in Aden, as well as on Aden International Airport and residential areas in the city of Marib. These assaults have resulted in casualties and injuries, putting civilian lives at significant risk.

Escalation of Violence

In a statement, the Arab League emphasized that these attacks represent a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian law. The League underscored that the continued targeting of state institutions and civilian facilities reflects a determination to escalate tensions, threatening Yemen’s security and stability. This situation undermines efforts aimed at achieving de-escalation and reaching a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis.

Support for Yemen’s Sovereignty

The Arab League reiterated its firm stance in supporting Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its backing for the Yemeni government and legitimate state institutions. The League called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and take decisive actions to halt these attacks and hold those responsible accountable, ensuring the protection of civilians and the safeguarding of state institutions.

Welcoming Security Council Statement

The Arab League welcomed the presidential statement issued by the United Nations Security Council on October 15, 2026, which condemned the escalating Houthi attacks and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities targeting civilians and civilian facilities.

Urging Political Resolution

The League stressed the importance of intensifying Arab and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the agreed-upon references and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216. This approach aims to restore security and stability and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Condolences to Victims’ Families

The Arab League expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured, reaffirming its full solidarity with the Yemeni government and people.
