Yemen Launches Program to Train External Reviewers for Higher Education

The Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council in Yemen has officially launched a program aimed at training external reviewers to evaluate higher education programs and institutions across the country. This initiative began today and will run for one week.

Objectives of the Training Program

The program seeks to prepare a select group of academics and specialists. These trained professionals will conduct external reviews based on established quality and accreditation standards. The initiative aims to enhance the performance of higher education institutions and improve educational outcomes.

Importance of the Program

Dr. Susan Bakheera, the Chair of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council, emphasized the program’s significance during her virtual address. She highlighted its role in building a specialized national capacity that can support academic evaluation and accreditation efforts. This, in turn, will foster continuous improvement within Yemeni universities.

University Support and Collaboration

Dr. Mohiuddin Al-Qabati, President of Al-Jund University, welcomed the participants and expressed pride in hosting this significant academic event. He noted that the program strengthens the culture of quality and solidifies partnerships between higher education institutions and the Accreditation Council.

Day One Highlights

The first day of the program featured specialized scientific sessions. These sessions covered the principles and fundamentals of external review, as well as skills for designing, evaluating, and developing academic programs. Over 50 academics, including professors and experts from various Yemeni universities and the Accreditation Council, participated in these discussions.

A Step Towards Quality Assurance

This training program represents a crucial step in enhancing the quality and accreditation system in Yemen. It aims to equip the higher education sector with qualified national competencies that will contribute to the development of academic institutions and boost their competitiveness both locally and regionally.
