The Al-Baraq Sports Club from Tarim claimed the title of the 8th Hadhramaut Cup after a thrilling match that concluded with a penalty shootout. The team secured victory with a score of 4-3 in penalties, following a 1-1 draw during regulation time. The match took place at the Olympic Stadium in Sayun, showcasing the competitive spirit of local football.
Governor of Hadhramaut, Mabkhout bin Madi, honored the Al-Baraq team along with their coaching and administrative staff by presenting them with the championship trophy and gold medals. The runners-up, Al-Mukalla, received the second-place trophy and silver medals, while individual players were recognized for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament.
During halftime, the Governor received a loyalty shield from the tournament committee on behalf of the sports community in Hadhramaut. This gesture acknowledged his significant contributions to the sports sector, particularly in improving infrastructure for youth and sports initiatives. The media sponsor, Al-Amqi and Brothers Company, also received recognition, along with 21 sports figures who played a crucial role in managing the tournament and enhancing the sporting landscape.
In a separate match earlier on Thursday, Samon Club from Shahr secured third place by defeating Al-Ittihad Club from Houta in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time. This victory earned them bronze medals, adding to the excitement of the tournament.
The final match and award ceremony attracted notable figures, including the Deputy Governor for Valley and Desert Affairs, Amer Al-Amri, along with other provincial officials, sports leaders, and military and security representatives. Their presence highlighted the importance of sports in fostering community spirit and development in Hadhramaut.
This year’s Hadhramaut Cup not only celebrated athletic talent but also emphasized the commitment to advancing sports in the region.
