Over 9,300 Cases of Epidemic Diseases Reported in Taiz, Yemen

The Epidemiological Surveillance Department in Taiz, Yemen, has reported alarming statistics, revealing more than 9,300 cases of epidemic diseases since the beginning of this year. This surge in infections reflects a significant public health crisis in the region.

A Closer Look

According to a recent report from the Epidemiological Surveillance Office of the Ministry of Public Health and Population in Taiz, the total number of reported cases from January 1 to September 30 stands at 9,309. Among these cases, 45 resulted in fatalities. The breakdown of infections includes:

  • Cholera: 5,842 cases, including 37 deaths.
  • Dengue Fever: 2,237 cases, with no reported deaths.
  • Measles: 1,230 cases, resulting in 8 fatalities.

These figures underscore the urgent need for effective public health interventions.

Health System Collapse and Ongoing Blockade

The widespread outbreak of these diseases in Taiz can be attributed to the collapse of the healthcare system and the ongoing blockade imposed by Houthi militias on the city for the past nine years. This situation has severely limited access to medical care and essential resources, exacerbating the health crisis.

The rising incidence of epidemic diseases in Taiz highlights an urgent public health emergency that requires immediate attention. Health authorities and international organizations must collaborate to address the underlying issues and provide necessary support to the affected population.
