In a significant move towards promoting intellectual sports and recognizing outstanding talents, Nabil Shamsan, the Governor of Taiz, inaugurated the first National Mental Sports Championship in Yemen today. The event also served as an occasion to honor the winners of the Arab Mental Arithmetic Competition.
Governor Shamsan underscored the local authority’s dedication to nurturing creativity and excellence across various fields of knowledge and science. He emphasized that the local government prioritizes the achievements of distinguished individuals, viewing them as the future of Yemen in general and Taiz in particular. This celebration of talent coincides with the Yemeni Revolution holidays of September, October, and November, which have historically opened avenues for education and set it as a cornerstone of the revolution’s goals. Shamsan praised the efforts of the Education Office and Naeema Rasam School, the idea’s originator, in this scientific domain.
On the sidelines of the event, attended by Abdul Wasea Shaddad, the Director of the Education Office in the province, Governor Shamsan inaugurated a remote learning section at the Martyr Naeema Rasam School for grades one through six. This initiative allows those outside the province or abroad to access education, marking a pioneering step for Taiz. The governor also kicked off the National Mental Sports Championship, featuring mental arithmetic, memory games, and Vedic math, with the participation of 350 students from five provinces.
Following the inauguration, Governor Shamsan awarded certificates of appreciation and cash prizes to the creative minds and prominent participants in both the Arab competition held in Egypt and the National Mental Arithmetic Competition. This gesture aims to motivate continued excellence, creativity, and distinction. The event also acknowledged the contributions of the Ministry’s Activities Department, the Education Office, Naeema Rasam School’s administration, and all supporters and participants.
This initiative not only highlights the local authority’s support for intellectual development but also positions Taiz as a leader in innovative educational practices, promising a brighter future for Yemen’s youth through the encouragement of mental sports and academic excellence.
