National Atomic Energy Committee Secretary: Mukalla Center to be a hub for nuclear medicine, radiation, and chemotherapy treatments.

Mukalla Radiation Therapy Center: A Beacon of Hope for Comprehensive Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Care

A New Era in Cancer Treatment

In a significant development for healthcare in Yemen, Dr. Abdullah Al-Shami, the Secretary-General of the National Atomic Energy Commission, announced that the Mukalla Radiation Therapy Center is set to become a cornerstone for an integrated center specializing in nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. This announcement came during his visit to the center in Mukalla, Hadhramaut province, accompanied by key figures from the commission. The visit aimed to assess the infrastructure, equipment, performance, and safety procedures related to precision in measurement, quality assurance, and radiation safety protocols.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Expert Care

During the tour, the commission’s team received detailed insights from Dr. Muawiya Al-Hassan, the Deputy Executive Director of the Mukalla Center, Dr. Walid Kalim, the Medical Director, and Abdul Latif Bajri, the Radiation Protection Officer. They highlighted the advanced therapeutic services the center offers to cancer patients, including a linear accelerator from Varian, a leading American company in radiation therapy technology. Additionally, a CT simulator from Siemens, a German leader in imaging and radiation simulation, plays a crucial role in accurately targeting cancerous tissues while safeguarding healthy organs. A highly qualified team of local and international medical staff, including radiation therapy consultants and physicists, oversees these cutting-edge technologies.

A Charitable Initiative with Global Standards

Dr. Al-Shami, in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), emphasized the center’s exemplary infrastructure and adherence to safety measures, developed in coordination between the commission’s experts and the center’s leadership, aligning with the commission’s standards. He highlighted the center’s charitable nature and its use of modern cancer treatment devices, marking it as a pioneer in Yemen. Dr. Al-Shami called on others to follow the philanthropic example set by the Bin Dool group, emphasizing that such investment in human health and safety represents the highest form of charity. He commended the exceptional efforts and capabilities of the staff, whose dedication is saving the lives of many cancer patients.

This initiative not only marks a significant advancement in Yemen’s healthcare landscape but also sets a benchmark for cancer care in the region, offering hope and advanced treatment options to patients battling this devastating disease.
