In a remarkable development for South Korea’s food industry, exports surged to $7.86 billion last year, marking an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year. This significant growth emphasizes the escalating global demand for Korean food products, establishing the nation as a key player in international trade.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety reported that a substantial portion of the food exports, amounting to $776.06 million, was derived from ready-to-eat meals and convenience foods. Additionally, roasted seaweed exports contributed significantly, reaching $562.39 million. This diverse array of food products highlights South Korea’s robust position in the global market, catering to varying consumer preferences worldwide.
In conjunction with export growth, the ministry indicated that the total production value of the food industry achieved 119.73 trillion won last year, reflecting a 4.3% increase from the previous year. This growth in domestic production underscores the industry’s capability to effectively satisfy both local and international demand.
Looking ahead, experts predict that the positive trend in food exports will persist in the coming years. The South Korean government’s commitment to enhancing the food sector through quality improvements and innovative practices is expected to play a pivotal role in this success. Such policies not only aim to bolster exports but also contribute positively to the overall South Korean economy.
