Socotra’s executive committee, led by the archipelago’s governor, discusses efforts to enhance development and stability.

Executive Office Discusses Development and Stability in Socotra Archipelago

The Executive Office of Socotra Archipelago convened today under the leadership of Governor Raafat Al-Thaqali. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance development and stability across the region.

Commitment to Development and Stability

Governor Al-Thaqali emphasized the need for collective effort and continuous work in the new year. He called for all stakeholders to contribute to the development of the archipelago, aiming to make it a model of prosperity and essential service provision within the country.

Review of Achievements

During the meeting, the governor highlighted several accomplishments from the past year. Notable achievements include the construction and completion of the local authority’s ground-floor building, with over 60% progress made on the first floor. Additionally, the meeting addressed the paving of the Qa’ra road and the launch of the Hadibo-Mori project, supported by the United Arab Emirates. Efforts to boost tourism and develop protected areas in collaboration with various organizations have also progressed, enhancing the tourism infrastructure and creating hundreds of job opportunities for the local community. Furthermore, local authority-funded projects have improved operational efficiency in several government offices and significantly increased state revenue collection.

Emphasis on Accountability and Reporting

Governor Al-Thaqali urged executive office directors to adhere to professional discipline and avoid leniency in their duties. He instructed them to submit the annual report for the previous year and the work plan for 2025 within a week. Non-compliance will result in administrative measures against the respective offices.

Acknowledgment of Urban Development Efforts

The Executive Office praised the achievements in implementing urban plans for Hadibo and the neighboring units in Mori. The office stressed the importance of completing general plans throughout the archipelago to enhance the aesthetic appeal of cities, designate public service locations, and prevent unauthorized construction.

Formation of Committees for Resource Management

The Executive Office approved the formation of two committees: one dedicated to financial resources and the other focused on coastal land and natural reserves. These committees aim to protect and preserve these vital areas. The office also highlighted the need to establish an information center to contribute to public policy development in the region. Additionally, it plans to implement various training programs for executive office staff.
