Yemen's Shura Council Discusses National Developments with UN Deputy Envoy
In a significant meeting today, Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Daghr, the President of Yemen’s Shura Council, engaged in discussions with Sarhad Fatah, the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Yemen, and his accompanying delegation. The primary focus of their talks was the latest developments on the national scene and the ongoing peace efforts spearheaded by the United Nations.
Supporting the Roadmap to Peace
Dr. Bin Daghr expressed the Shura Council’s support for the roadmap adopted by Saudi Arabia, aimed at reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the crisis and conflict in Yemen. He emphasized the importance of pressuring the Houthi militias to seriously engage with the roadmap, respect the ceasefire agreement, and build upon it to achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities. This, he argued, would pave the way for lasting and just peace, preserving Yemen’s unity, security, and stability, halting the bloodshed, and moving the country out of its current predicament.
Appreciation for UN Efforts
The President of the Shura Council also praised the efforts of the UN Special Envoy, Hans Grundberg, and his team, insisting on the United Nations playing a decisive and active role in addressing the severe humanitarian violations committed by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people.
Meeting Attendees
The meeting was attended by Shura Council members, including Al-Basha Atiah, Salah Batis, and Hamoud Al-Ashbi, highlighting the council’s collective concern and involvement in the peace process and the well-being of Yemen.
The discussions mark a critical step in international and regional efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis, underscoring the importance of collaboration and concerted action in navigating the path to peace and stability in Yemen.
