A tragic incident occurred this morning at the Goldmoor Resort beach in the Tawahi district of Aden, where seven young men from the Al-Mamdara neighborhood drowned while swimming. This marks the second such tragedy in just one week, as turbulent sea conditions continue to pose risks along Yemen’s coastlines.
Eyewitnesses reported that the young men entered the water early in the day, unaware of the strong currents affecting the area. Their lack of awareness hindered the rescue attempts made by bystanders on the beach. Rescue teams managed to recover four bodies, while three young men remain missing. Ongoing search operations are underway, but hopes for their survival are dwindling.
The victims, aged between 15 and 22, all hailed from Al-Mamdara. The community has been engulfed in grief and shock following the loss of its youth. In response to this tragedy, local residents have renewed their calls for authorities to enhance safety measures. They demand the establishment of permanent rescue teams and the installation of clear warning signs in hazardous areas to protect citizens and prevent future tragedies.
This incident follows the drowning of three brothers from Marib province during the “Star of the Town” tourism season at a beach in Mukalla. These repeated incidents highlight the urgent need to reassess maritime safety protocols, especially during the rough sea season that lasts from June to September.
As the community mourns, the call for improved safety measures grows louder. Authorities must take immediate action to safeguard lives and prevent further tragedies along Yemen’s coastlines.
