Minister Celebrates UNESCO Inclusion of New Sites

Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, announced the inclusion of 26 new cultural, heritage, and natural sites in Yemen on UNESCO’s preliminary World Heritage list. This addition raises the total number of Yemeni sites recognized by UNESCO to 35.

Significance of the Achievement

In a press statement, Al-Eryani emphasized that this milestone highlights Yemen’s rich historical, cultural, and human heritage. He noted that it underscores Yemen’s significant contributions to global civilization, despite the ongoing challenges the country faces.

Collaborative Efforts Behind the Success

Al-Eryani credited this achievement to integrated national and international efforts. He expressed gratitude to UNESCO, its regional office for the Gulf and Yemen, the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage, and the European Union for their technical support and expertise. Their collaboration with representatives from the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, as well as Yemeni academics involved in preparing the nomination files, played a crucial role.

Diplomatic Efforts Highlighted

The minister also acknowledged the vital role of Yemen’s permanent mission to UNESCO, led by Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Jumeh. He praised their continuous diplomatic efforts to present Yemen’s heritage on international platforms, coordinating with specialized ministry teams, heritage and environmental agencies, and Yemeni universities.

In conclusion, Al-Eryani stated that this achievement represents a qualitative step in protecting Yemen’s heritage. He conveyed a civilizational message to the world, affirming that Yemen, despite its challenges, remains a land of values, creativity, and human beauty.
