President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has extended his heartfelt thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its significant contributions to Yemen’s electricity sector. He acknowledged the generous donation of petroleum derivatives intended to power electricity stations and alleviate the suffering faced by the Yemeni people, which has been exacerbated by actions from the Houthi militia.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), President Alimi stated, “This generous support once again reflects the honorable stance of the Kingdom, led by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, alongside Yemen and its people. Their commitment to supporting Yemen’s aspirations for security, stability, peace, and development remains strong.”
In a detailed statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), President Alimi commended the collaborative efforts of the Saudi team overseeing the Yemen file, particularly under the guidance of Prince Khalid bin Salman. He also recognized the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, supervised by Ambassador Mohammed Saeed Al Jaber. This partnership has resulted in new support that coincides with the joyous occasion of Eid al-Adha, enhancing the state’s capacity to fulfill its service obligations to citizens.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia announced an urgent support package for the Yemeni government, which includes $150 million in petroleum derivatives. This funding, facilitated through the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, is designated to cover the diesel and mazout needs for electricity stations until the end of 2026.
This initiative underscores Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to assist the Yemeni people and mitigate their humanitarian challenges. The support aims to stabilize electricity services, bolster related commercial and service activities, and strengthen the foundations of development and stability within the country.
