On Thursday, the Yemeni Armed Forces successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant shipment of narcotic pills into Saudi Arabia. The operation took place at the Al-Wadiah border crossing, where the shipment originated from areas controlled by the Houthi militia.
According to the Armed Forces’ media center, the Security and Protection Battalion stationed at the Al-Wadiah crossing intercepted around 15,000 pregabalin pills. Authorities discovered these pills cleverly hidden within the vehicle’s structure during routine inspections. This successful interception highlights the effectiveness of security measures in place at the border.
Brigadier General Bassam Al-Najjar, the battalion commander, confirmed that both the vehicle and its driver have been detained. They will face referral to the appropriate authorities along with the seized narcotics. Al-Najjar commended the vigilance and dedication of the battalion members, emphasizing their critical role in uncovering smuggling operations.
In his statement, Al-Najjar reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding the Al-Wadiah crossing. He stressed the importance of combating drug smuggling and other contraband to enhance security and stability between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to collaborate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities related to smuggling.
The successful interception of this drug shipment underscores the ongoing efforts of the Yemeni Armed Forces to maintain border security. Their proactive measures play a vital role in protecting both nations from the threats posed by drug trafficking and organized crime.
