Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack on Khartoum Airport

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong condemnation and outrage over the recent targeting of a site at Khartoum Airport. In its official statement, the ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for Sudan’s unity, legitimate institutions, security, and stability, highlighting the critical need for peace in the region.

Importance of Respecting Sudan’s Sovereignty

In its statement, the ministry emphasized the necessity of keeping civilian sites and vital facilities free from conflict. It called upon all involved parties to de-escalate tensions and immediately cease any violations. Furthermore, the ministry underscored the importance of adhering to the commitments outlined in the Jeddah Declaration, which was signed on May 11, 2023. This declaration includes provisions for the protection of civilians and civilian objects in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Regional Stability

Saudi Arabia has urged neighboring countries to respect Sudan’s sovereignty, preventing the use of their territories as launching pads for attacks. The ministry stressed the importance of supporting initiatives aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in Sudan and enhancing security and stability throughout the region. It also highlighted the need for regional and international cooperation in addressing the crises faced by Sudan, noting that ongoing threats necessitate a coordinated response from all concerned nations to ensure the protection of civilians and achieve lasting peace.
