Saudi Arabia Condemns Houthi Claims and Reaffirms Support for Yemen

Saudi Arabia has expressed strong condemnation of recent statements made by the military spokesperson for the Houthi militia, which included allegations of a “blockade on the Yemeni people” and a “ban on maritime navigation.” The Kingdom labeled these claims as false and misleading.

Continued Support for Yemen

In a statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Yemeni people and their legitimate government. The statement highlighted that ports in northern Yemen received over 300 ships carrying food, goods, fuel, and construction materials during the first half of 2026. This effort aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2216, which aims to prevent the entry of weapons that the militia seeks to import to extend its control.

Houthi Militia’s Record of Terrorism

The Ministry also reminded the public of the Houthi militia’s history of terrorist attacks. Notable incidents include the targeting of Aden Airport in 2020, assaults on oil export ports in 2022, and the seizure of four Yemeni aircraft. Additionally, the militia has attacked commercial vessels in the Red Sea, exacerbating the suffering of Yemenis and hindering travel, which has led to widespread economic crises, particularly in areas under Houthi control.

Commitment to Peace Efforts

The Saudi Foreign Ministry emphasized the Kingdom’s steadfast position in supporting peace efforts. It noted that the Houthis have rejected the UN roadmap and engaged in conflicts that serve the agenda of the Iranian regime, further complicating the plight of Yemeni citizens.

Call for International Action

Saudi Arabia urged the international community to implement Security Council resolutions, particularly 2216 and 2722. The Kingdom asserted that it would take all necessary measures to protect its vessels in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.

This statement underscores Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to Yemen and its efforts to maintain stability in the region amidst ongoing conflict.
