Reports from Argentina indicate that Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of the Argentina national football team, is nearing a contract extension. This agreement would ensure his continued leadership of the world champions during the upcoming phase, particularly following the era of star player Lionel Messi.
The newspaper “La Nacion” reported that the deal has reached its final stages, with only the official signing remaining. Meanwhile, “Clarin” highlighted significant progress in negotiations between Scaloni and Claudio Tapia, the president of the Argentine Football Association, to extend the contract until the 2030 World Cup.
Sources suggest that the extension could last until the 2028 Copa America, with an additional option to continue through the 2030 World Cup, which Argentina will host for some matches.
Scaloni, 48, took charge of the Argentina national team in 2018. Under his guidance, the team won the 2022 World Cup and claimed Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024.
This development comes as Lionel Messi has retired from international play. Scaloni had previously left the door open regarding his future with the national team, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of this year.
