President Alimi Celebrates Historic Agreement for Prisoner Release

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has expressed strong support for a significant agreement announced today regarding the release of 1,750 detainees. This development represents the largest prisoner exchange to date, aimed at addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

A Moment of Joy and Hope

In a statement shared via the social media platform X, President Alimi characterized this agreement as a “moment of joy and hope,” especially as it coincides with the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations. He underscored the necessity of prioritizing humanitarian and religious values, emphasizing the importance of reuniting families and alleviating the suffering of those impacted by the conflict.

Acknowledgment of Collaborative Efforts

On behalf of the Council and the government, President Alimi extended heartfelt gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its pivotal role in facilitating this significant agreement. He also recognized the contributions of the United Nations Special Envoy’s office, the Kingdom of Jordan, the Sultanate of Oman, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the government negotiating team, all of whom played essential roles in reaching this historical accord.

Details of the Agreement

Earlier today, the government negotiating team announced the successful agreement to release approximately 1,750 detainees from various factions, which includes 27 members of the Arab Coalition forces. The team clarified that this agreement stemmed from negotiations that began in Muscat, Oman, on December 11, 2025, based on an “all-for-all” principle. They confirmed that the signing of the lists and the implementation mechanisms signifies a substantial breakthrough in addressing this complex humanitarian issue.

Conclusion

This agreement not only signifies a critical step forward in resolving the humanitarian crisis but also highlights the collaborative efforts of multiple nations and organizations. As the region prepares for Eid al-Adha, the release of these detainees brings renewed hope to families and communities affected by the ongoing conflict.
