PM concludes official visit to Qatar, enhancing bilateral relations.

Yemeni Prime Minister Concludes Fruitful Visit to Qatar

In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak wrapped up an official visit to Qatar on Thursday. This visit marked a pivotal step in strengthening the brotherly ties between the two nations, focusing on discussions with senior officials and participation in celebrations marking the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration of September 9 as the International Day to Protect Education from Attack.

Strategic Discussions to Enhance Education and Stability

During his visit, Prime Minister Bin Mubarak held a meeting with Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Education Above All Foundation. They explored several proposals for the foundation’s interventions in Yemen. These initiatives aim to support the Yemeni government’s efforts in education, implement sustainable educational projects nationwide, and establish specialized schools for children with special needs and mine victims, alongside supporting teachers.

Furthermore, Bin Mubarak engaged in bilateral talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Their discussions spanned recent developments on the national and regional fronts, enhancing bilateral relations, and Qatar’s potential role in supporting Yemen’s government to achieve economic stability.

Financial and Developmental Support

The visit also included productive discussions with Qatar’s Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, the State Minister for International Cooperation Lolwah Al-Khater, and the acting Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development, Sultan Al Asiri. The focus was on mechanisms to implement agreed upon understandings to prioritize support for Yemen, particularly in the electricity sector, resuming developmental fund activities, combating climate change effects, and collaborating on social protection projects. Additionally, there was talk of supporting Khalifa Hospital in Taiz, completing the Batis Road project in Yafe, and exploring the possibility of establishing direct flight routes between Aden and Doha airports.

Enhancing Education and Legal Cooperation

Prime Minister Bin Mubarak also discussed ongoing coordination with the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen to organize an international conference supporting education in Yemen. This includes reinforcing plans to protect World Heritage Sites from climate change impacts and supporting higher education efforts.

A notable achievement of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Yemen and Qatar in the judicial and legal fields, further cementing the collaborative relationship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Bin Mubarak described his visit to Qatar as “successful and fruitful,” highlighting its role in developing bilateral cooperation frameworks and creating economic and investment partnerships for mutual benefits. Accompanying him were Yemen’s Minister of Education Tariq Al Akbari, the Prime Minister’s Office Director Engineer Anis Baharitha, and Ambassador Mujib Osman, the Prime Minister’s advisor.

This visit underscores the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Yemen and Qatar, setting a foundation for future cooperation in various sectors, primarily education, economic stability, and legal frameworks, aimed at achieving shared prosperity and development for both nations.
