Yemen Prepares for International Book Fair in Hadhramaut

Aden Hosts Preparatory Meeting for Upcoming Cultural Event

In a significant move to bolster Yemen’s cultural landscape, Ma’mar al-Eryani, the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, and the chairman of the high committee, convened with the executive committee of the Hadhramaut International Book Fair in Aden, the temporary capital. This meeting, held in collaboration with the General Authority for Books and the Hadhramaut Foundation for Culture, laid the groundwork for the event scheduled for the end of December.

Progress and Preparations on Track

Yahya al-Thulaya, head of the General Authority for Books, briefed Minister al-Eryani on the latest developments and preparatory measures, including the outcomes of recent meetings with the Arab Publishers Union and the Egyptian Publishers Union in Cairo. The discussions highlighted the enthusiastic response from Arab publishers registering for the fair through the online platform.

Government Shows Strong Support for the Book Fair

Minister al-Eryani conveyed greetings and support from Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, its members, and the Prime Minister. Their backing underscores the significance of the Hadhramaut International Book Fair as a major cultural event. Al-Eryani praised the efforts of the General Authority for Books and reiterated appreciation for the Hadhramaut Foundation for Culture’s role in making this national and international cultural event possible. This marks a pivotal moment for Yemen, hosting its first book fair since the 2013 Sana’a International Book Fair, which was halted due to the Houthi militia’s invasion.

Final Preparations Underway

The minister directed the fair’s management team to finalize arrangements, prepare communications, and develop plans to ensure the event’s success. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a high-quality cultural and intellectual experience.

Commitment to Excellence

The leadership of the General Authority for Books and the fair’s executive committee expressed their gratitude for the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism’s support. They reaffirmed their dedication to organizing an event that honors Hadhramaut and Yemen, aiming to restore the country’s reputation in the international book fair sector.

This upcoming Hadhramaut International Book Fair represents a beacon of hope and a testament to Yemen’s resilience and cultural richness, promising to be a landmark event in the country’s cultural calendar.
