Planning Minister Appreciates ESCWA’s Support in Various Fields

In a meeting held today on the sidelines of the high-level political forum in New York City, Yemen’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Bazeeb, discussed with Dr. Rola Dashti, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the aspects of support and cooperation between ESCWA and Yemen.

Dr. Bazeeb expressed his appreciation for ESCWA’s efforts in providing technical and advisory support to Yemen across numerous sectors, including the preparation of the country’s first Voluntary National Review. He highlighted the significance of ESCWA’s support in various areas such as renewable energy, climate change, enhancing the productivity of the agricultural sector, among others, in addition to capacity building through the Coursera platform, which ESCWA supports to train over five thousand employees in various public service-related fields.

From her side, Dr. Dashti pointed out ESCWA’s ongoing support for Yemen, especially in capacity building and enhancing resilience in numerous sectors, including agriculture and fisheries.

The meeting, attended by Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Haweri, Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation for Economic Studies and Forecasts, concluded with an agreement to review and refine the national social and economic vision. This vision serves as a roadmap for recovery and reconstruction in the upcoming phase.
