Yemen recently participated in the Eighth Roundtable for Arab Governments and Authorities, represented by Dr. Waed Badhieb, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, who also serves as the Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The delegation included Wail Tarmoom, the CEO of the Public Telecommunications Corporation. The event took place in coordination with the RIPE NCC and focused on “Enhancing Internet Infrastructure and Governance for a Resilient Digital Future in Arab Countries.”
The roundtable, hosted by the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, addressed the outcomes of the seventh governmental roundtable held in Dubai. Participants discussed statistics, challenges, and opportunities related to developing infrastructure, as well as the security and resilience of the Internet in the Arab region. The event also highlighted collaborative efforts among RIPE NCC, regulatory bodies, the Arab League, the Arab Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union, and the Arab Internet Working Group.
Bassem Al-Sarhan, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, emphasized that hosting the event underscores Jordan’s pivotal role in fostering Arab and international cooperation in the telecommunications sector. He noted the country’s commitment to establishing common understandings with regulatory bodies and specialized organizations.
This event represents a significant step towards improving internet governance and infrastructure in the Arab world, aiming to create a more resilient digital future for all member states.
