New Wave of Violations Hits Ibb Governorate

Systematic Abuses Reported Amid Rising Attacks

Ibb Governorate, currently under Houthi control, has witnessed a disturbing surge in systematic violations over the past few days. Reports indicate a significant increase in assaults targeting both citizens and public and private properties.

Houthi Takeover of Al-Farooq Mosque

Local sources report that a Houthi official from outside the governorate has unlawfully seized land belonging to Al-Farooq Mosque in the Saila Jibla area, south of Ibb city. The official began construction on the mosque’s grounds, backed by militia security forces, despite widespread community opposition. This incident is part of a troubling trend of attacks on mosques and endowment properties in the region, with accusations of complicity against Houthi authorities.

Home Invasion and Kidnapping in Al-Adain

In the Al-Adain district, a Houthi-led raid involving two vehicles and female operatives targeted the home of young man Izz al-Din Mahyoub Tahir Saif in the village of Al-Zanji. The militia abducted him and took him to an undisclosed location. Sources confirmed that the raid involved violence against women and intimidation of children, along with the theft of personal belongings. The family chose not to report the incident, hoping for his release, but the militia continues to refuse to disclose the reasons for his abduction.

Motorcycle Driver Left Injured on the Road

In the Riff Ibb district, Najeeb Mohammed Ahmed Al-Arumi sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle driven by prosecutor Sadiq Ali Al-Junaid. In a widely circulated video, Al-Arumi stated that the prosecutor’s guards confiscated his motorcycle and left him bleeding on the road, refusing to involve traffic police.

Tax Collector Assaults Qat Seller

In another alarming incident, a Houthi tax collector stabbed a qat seller in the neck during a dispute over qat taxes, resulting in severe injuries that required the seller’s transfer to intensive care.

According to a recent report by the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, Ibb Governorate ranks first among Houthi-controlled areas for widespread violations over the past year and a half. The report highlights that the militia has transformed the region into a hub for crime and systematic abuses.
