Minister of Electricity Engages with UN Advisor on Energy Infrastructure

In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Engineer Adnan Al-Kaf, Yemen’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, convened with Dirk Jan, the Economic Advisor to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. The dialogue was centered around the current challenges within the electricity sector and strategic initiatives for its support and development.

Challenges Facing the Electricity Sector

The meeting underscored the numerous difficulties besetting the electricity sector in Yemen, exacerbated by ongoing adverse conditions. Minister Al-Kaf highlighted the pressing need for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the electrical network’s infrastructure. He further stressed the importance of gradually transitioning to renewable energy sources, a move aimed at stabilizing services and improving the quality of supply provided to citizens.

Operational Needs and Strategic Development

During the discussions, the necessity of securing daily operational requirements for the “Petro Masila” station was also addressed, specifically the provision of 30 oil tankers each day. The role of the Saudi fuel grant in enhancing electricity services was reviewed, illustrating its significant impact on the sector.

Minister Al-Kaf reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the electricity sector, emphasizing the importance of implementing strategic plans that align with the government’s overarching program. The objective is to enhance performance efficiency and improve service quality for the public.

In response, the UN advisor reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting the legitimate government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing basic services, particularly in the electricity sector.
