Measures approved to ensure stable supply of domestic gas in Taiz Governorate.

Meeting in Marib Addresses Domestic Gas Supply Challenges

A comprehensive meeting took place today in Marib, led by the Executive Director of the Yemeni Gas Company. The gathering included officials from the company’s headquarters, the branch leadership in Taiz, owners of licensed domestic gas filling stations, and representatives from the Domestic Gas Distribution Agents Union. The meeting aimed to implement solutions that ensure a stable supply of domestic gas in the province while preventing monopolization, smuggling, and manipulation of gas supplies that could harm citizens’ lives.

New Operational Mechanisms for Gas Stations

During the meeting, participants approved a new operational framework for gas filling stations. This framework outlines the geographical coverage of these stations and allocates gas supplies based on population density. Additionally, the meeting established a committee, chaired by the branch manager, to address existing issues among agents at both urban and rural levels. This committee will study current challenges and propose effective solutions.

Importance of Domestic Gas Supply

At the start of the meeting, Engineer Mohsen bin Waheit, the Executive Director of the Gas Company, emphasized that domestic gas is not a luxury but a necessity that affects every citizen’s life. He urged all stakeholders to take responsibility for alleviating citizens’ hardships, highlighting that gas is a service provided to the public rather than merely a commodity.

Preventing Market Manipulation

Engineer bin Waheit stressed the importance of gas station owners refraining from redirecting any allocated gas quantities to large consumers, as this practice creates artificial shortages in the market. He noted that last month, the company increased the province’s gas supply as a temporary measure to alleviate the ongoing gas crisis faced by residents.

Implementation of Technological Solutions

The company plans to introduce various procedural and practical solutions, including electronic applications and surveillance cameras, to enhance oversight of gas trailers. These measures will ensure that gas reaches approved filling stations, is unloaded properly, and is dispensed to agents according to each station’s geographical area. Each station will be responsible for supplying the designated quantities to its assigned agents.

Local Authorities’ Role in Oversight

Engineer bin Waheit also called on local authorities at both provincial and district levels to fulfill their supervisory and regulatory roles. This oversight is crucial to ensure that domestic gas reaches deserving citizens and to prevent manipulation, monopolization, and smuggling of gas cylinders, which could lead to the emergence of a black market detrimental to citizens’ livelihoods.

In conclusion, the meeting underscored the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to maintain a fair and stable domestic gas supply, ultimately improving the quality of life for citizens in Marib.
