Project Masam Removes 630 Landmines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen

Project Masam, dedicated to removing landmines in Yemen, announced a major achievement last week. Its field teams successfully cleared 630 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from various Yemeni provinces.

Details of the Operation

According to a statement from the Project Masam operations room, the removal took place between October 5 and October 11. The breakdown of the cleared items includes 598 unexploded ordnance, 28 anti-tank mines, three anti-personnel mines, and one IED. This brings the total number of explosives removed from October 1 to October 11 to 2,209.

Expanding the Cleared Area

In addition to the explosives, the project teams cleared 272,789 square meters of land last week. As a result, the total area cleared so far this month reaches 513,364 square meters. Since the project’s inception, teams have cleared an impressive 60,781,715 square meters of land.

Long-Term Impact of Project Masam

Since its launch in late June 2018, Project Masam has identified and destroyed 465,882 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs in liberated areas of Yemen. This ongoing effort significantly contributes to the safety and stability of communities affected by the remnants of conflict.

Project Masam continues to make strides in enhancing safety in Yemen by removing dangerous explosives. Their dedicated efforts not only protect lives but also pave the way for rebuilding and development in affected regions.
