"Masam" Project Removes 714 Landmines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen

The “Masam” project, dedicated to clearing Yemen’s landmines, successfully removed 714 landmines and unexploded ordnance last week. These dangerous devices were planted by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

Weekly Achievements in Landmine Clearance

In a press release on its official website, Masam reported that its teams removed 684 unexploded munitions and 30 anti-tank mines during the past week. Additionally, the teams cleared an impressive 322,755 square meters of land in Yemen, contributing significantly to the safety of local communities.

Cumulative Impact of the Masam Project

Osama Al-Qusaybi, the project director, highlighted the ongoing efforts since the project’s inception. As of February 7, Masam teams have removed a total of 481,240 landmines, unexploded munitions, and improvised explosive devices. This includes 320,288 unexploded munitions, 8,193 improvised explosive devices, 146,042 anti-tank mines, and 6,717 anti-personnel mines.

The Masam project continues to play a crucial role in enhancing safety and stability in Yemen by removing hazardous explosives left by the Houthi militia. The ongoing efforts not only protect lives but also pave the way for rebuilding and development in affected areas.
