Masam destroys 6,009 pieces of war remnants in Bab al-Mandab, enhancing safety and security in the region.

Special Operations Team Dismantles 6,009 War Remnants in Yemen

On Wednesday morning, the second Special Operations Team of the “Mason” demining project successfully conducted a safe destruction and detonation of 6,009 landmines and unexploded ordnance in the Bab al-Mandab area of Taiz Governorate. This operation followed strict international standards for the safe disposal of explosives, ensuring thorough preparation and security measures.

Details of the Destruction Operation

The destroyed materials included a diverse array of munitions: 109 assorted shells, 3,012 fuses, 2,769 rounds, 29 anti-personnel mines, 53 anti-tank mines, 7 hand grenades, 8 rockets, 10 explosive devices, and 12 projectile arrows, totaling 6,009 pieces of war remnants. Team member Yasser Al-Mazlumi reported that these items were collected from the coastal districts of Al-Hudaydah and Taiz, as well as from Al-Dhale. This operation forms part of ongoing efforts to survey and clear areas, protecting civilians from the dangers posed by landmines.

Securing a Village in Hayran

In a related effort, Team 40 of the “Mason” project successfully averted a potential disaster for civilians in the village of Bani Khoury, located in the Hayran district of Hajjah Governorate. This intervention followed a report from the village chief, who alerted authorities about a minefield situated just 100 meters from residential homes. Team leader Engineer Al-Baraa Al-Ruhani confirmed that the team neutralized two anti-personnel mines early in the morning and is currently addressing three anti-tank mines, one of which is linked to a deceptive trap targeting demining teams.

Warnings for Civilians

Al-Ruhani issued a warning to residents, advising them to avoid the area due to the significant risks posed by the mines until the team completes its survey and secures the region. This precaution aims to ensure the safety of the local population, allowing them to resume their daily activities in a safer environment. These efforts underscore the “Mason” project’s commitment to protecting civilians and enhancing security in areas affected by war remnants.
