Project Masam Achieves Significant Milestones in Landmine Clearance

Overview of Achievements Since June 2018

Osama Al-Qusaybi, the Director General of Project Masam, announced impressive progress in landmine clearance efforts in Yemen. Since the project’s launch in June 2018, teams have successfully removed 485,501 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). They have also cleared 65,880,374 square meters of land previously contaminated by explosives.

Detailed Breakdown of Clearance Efforts

In a recent press statement, Al-Qusaybi provided a detailed account of the project’s accomplishments. Since its inception, teams have removed 324,306 unexploded munitions, 8,204 IEDs, 146,242 anti-tank mines, and 6,749 anti-personnel mines. These efforts highlight the ongoing commitment to making Yemen safer for its citizens.

March 2023 Operations and Results

The Operations Room of Project Masam revealed the field teams’ significant achievements during March 2023. Since the beginning of the month, teams have removed 2,158 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs. This total includes 2,062 unexploded munitions and 84 anti-tank mines. Notably, in just the past week, teams cleared 552 landmines and unexploded ordnance. The total area cleared this month reached 217,657 square meters.

Project Masam continues its field operations with a clear goal: to secure Yemeni land from the dangers of landmines. The project aims to protect civilians and facilitate their safe return to their homes. Through these dedicated efforts, Project Masam plays a crucial role in restoring safety and stability in Yemen.
