Marib: Three children killed by a landmine explosion left by Houthi militia in Sirwah.

Tragic Incident Claims Lives of Three Children in Marib

Three children from the same family lost their lives in a tragic incident in the Sirwah District of Marib Governorate. The children died after stepping on a landmine left by the Houthi militia while playing near their home in Wadi Noy on Tuesday afternoon.

Victims Identified

The Marib Human Rights Office confirmed the identities of the victims:

  • Nasser Ayed Saleh Makhout Rabi – 10 years old
  • Ali Mujib Ahmed Saleh Rabi – 15 years old
  • Mohammed Dief Allah Ahmed Said Rabi – 17 years old

Strong Condemnation of the Attack

The office condemned the attack in the strongest terms, labeling it a serious violation of international humanitarian law. They emphasized that this incident reflects a systematic policy by the Houthi militia, which indiscriminately plants landmines in civilian areas, grazing paths, valleys, and farms. This practice turns landmines into a silent weapon that claims innocent lives.

Alarming Statistics on Landmines in Yemen

The Marib Human Rights Office highlighted that Yemen has become one of the most landmine-contaminated countries in the world. This situation has led to thousands of casualties, with a significant number being children and women. Additionally, many survivors face permanent disabilities and severe psychological and social repercussions.

Call for International Action

The office holds the Houthi militia fully accountable for this crime, both legally and morally. They reiterated their call for the international community and the United Nations to take urgent action to protect civilians. They urged for an independent international investigation into the Wadi Noy incident and all related landmine crimes. Furthermore, they called for the militia to disclose landmine maps, cease planting them, and enhance support for demining programs and victim care.

Conclusion

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and protect vulnerable populations from the dangers of landmines.
