Marib, Yemen – Today, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Muftah, the Deputy Governor of Marib, alongside Dr. Najib Al-Sunawi, the Deputy Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, inaugurated a significant project to equip and furnish the Community College in Marib. This initiative receives funding from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
Dr. Muftah emphasized the strategic importance of the Community College for Marib, a province home to over three million residents. The area has also welcomed more than 62% of Yemen’s displaced population. He highlighted the urgent need for vocational and technical training programs to help local youth acquire skills that will enable them to enter the job market. This initiative aims to support the local economy by providing skilled labor essential for reconstruction efforts. Dr. Muftah expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s generous support in this endeavor.
Dr. Al-Sunawi noted that this Community College is one of twelve such institutions across various Yemeni provinces, all funded by the Kuwait Fund with an investment of $60 million. The college will feature 15 departments, including core sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Management Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, and Graphic Design.
The medical sciences department will offer five specializations: Dentistry, Anesthesia, Nursing and Midwifery, Physical Therapy, and Prosthetics. Additionally, the engineering department will include four specializations: Gemology, Mechatronics, Oil and Gas, and Medical Equipment Maintenance.
The project also includes the provision of two generators and transportation means for the college. Companies have started manufacturing the necessary equipment across 75 factories in 34 countries. Furthermore, the initiative plans to train and qualify 450 teaching staff both locally and internationally on modern equipment and its functionalities.
The inauguration ceremony also featured the presence of Professor Qaid Al-Montasir, Dean of the Community College, along with Najee Al-Hanashi, Director of Technical Education in the province, and other key officials.
This project marks a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities and vocational training in Marib, ultimately contributing to the region’s development and stability.
