Awareness Seminar in Marib Highlights Drug Risks

A recent awareness seminar held in Marib focused on the dangers of drugs and psychoactive substances. The event emphasized the urgent need to enhance community awareness regarding these threats, particularly concerning newly developed and synthetic drugs. Participants called for intensified awareness campaigns targeting youth, school, and university students. Additionally, they advocated for a comprehensive national approach to combat drug abuse, integrating the roles of security, judicial, educational, health, media, and civil society organizations.

Collective Responsibility to Combat Drug Abuse

During the seminar’s opening, Marib Deputy Governor Dr. Abdurrahman Muftah stressed that the rising prevalence of drug abuse necessitates increased security and preventive efforts. He highlighted the importance of year-round awareness programs, asserting that tackling this issue is a collective responsibility. Major General Yahya Hamid, Director of Marib Police, described the fight against drugs as a national battle aimed at safeguarding society, values, security, and stability. He urged citizens to collaborate with security forces and report any activities related to smuggling or promotion.

Strengthening Partnerships Against Drug Threats

Dr. Abdulhamid Amer, head of the National Center for Strategic Studies, explained that the seminar aims to strengthen partnerships between official entities and civil society organizations to address the escalating drug threat. He emphasized the need to develop coordination mechanisms and intensify awareness efforts to eliminate the roots of this issue.

Key Topics Discussed

The seminar featured three presentations that covered the social, economic, and psychological impacts of drug use. Discussions also focused on the role of partnerships between security agencies and civil society, as well as the legal aspects related to drug control.

Conclusion

The seminar concluded with a strong call for enhanced family and media roles in prevention, the development of treatment and rehabilitation programs for recovering addicts, and stricter measures against smuggling and promotion networks, including tactics targeting online platforms.

This initiative marks a significant step toward fostering a united front against the drug crisis in Marib, aiming to protect the community and promote a healthier future.
