In a significant diplomatic engagement, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the French Ambassador, Catherine Colonna, on Wednesday. This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Yemen and France, amid the backdrop of regional developments and the challenges posed by Houthi militia attacks.
The discussions between Dr. Al-Alimi and Ambassador Colonna focused on the robust bilateral relations shared by the two nations and the evolving local and regional landscape. A particular emphasis was placed on the repercussions of continuous assaults by the Houthi militias, backed by Iran, on oil facilities and international shipping lanes. These attacks not only threaten regional stability but also pose significant challenges to international trade routes.
Dr. Al-Alimi reiterated the exceptional nature of the relationship between Yemen and France, praising the French Republic’s advanced understanding and approach to the Yemeni issue. He expressed hope for an active European role at all levels in addressing the situation.
The President affirmed the Presidential Leadership Council and the government’s dedication to a comprehensive and just peace strategy, grounded in nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references. This includes the critical United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216, aiming at the recovery of state institutions and alleviating the humanitarian crisis inflicted by the Houthi militias, supported by the Iranian regime.
This meeting not only highlights the ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis but also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in restoring peace and stability in the region.
