In a significant move to boost local development and services, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, alongside council members Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi and Sheikh Osman Majali, initiated the foundation of more than 260 projects in Taiz Governorate. These projects, funded by the government, local authorities, agencies, and international organizations, aim to enhance various vital sectors in the region.
The newly launched projects, which are set to begin soon, span a wide range of crucial sectors. Notably, 104 of these projects are externally funded, with a total cost of approximately 23.297 million USD. The remaining 156 projects, financed by government and local funds, are estimated to cost around 6 billion Yemeni rials. These initiatives cover key areas such as agriculture, food security, road infrastructure, water, environmental sanitation, health, and education, reflecting a comprehensive approach to development and humanitarian aid in Taiz.
Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi highlighted the importance of these developmental and humanitarian interventions. He emphasized the government and local authority’s commitment, along with UN agencies and international organizations, to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Houthi militia’s actions. The President stressed the need for a focus on more sustainable development projects and interventions to ensure long-lasting benefits for the population.
The foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-profile figures. Among them were Dr. Waed Bathib, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Major General Ibrahim Haydan, Minister of Interior; Nabil Shamsan, Governor of Taiz; and Nabil Jamel, Director of the Office of Planning and International Cooperation in Taiz.
