International Organization for Migration: 24 Yemeni families displaced in the past week.

International Organization for Migration Reports Displacement of 24 Yemeni Families

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that 24 families, totaling 144 individuals, were displaced last week from various Yemeni provinces. The organization attributed the displacement primarily to security concerns linked to the ongoing conflict in the country.

Details from the Weekly Report

In its weekly report, the IOM tracked the displacement from September 29 to October 5, 2024. The families fled from the provinces of Al Hudaydah, Taiz, and Sana’a, seeking refuge in new locations. Specifically, 15 families relocated to Marib, 5 families moved to Taiz, and 4 families settled in Al Hudaydah.

Safety Concerns and Economic Motivations

The report highlighted that 54% of the displaced families, or 13 families, cited safety and security fears stemming from the conflict as their primary reason for leaving. Meanwhile, economic factors drove the displacement of 46% of the families, which corresponds to 11 families.

Overall Displacement Trends in Yemen

The IOM also noted a concerning trend in overall displacement across Yemen. From January 1 to October 5, 2024, the total number of displaced families reached 2,819, affecting 16,914 individuals. This increase underscores the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country, driven by persistent conflict and instability.

The findings from the IOM reflect the dire situation in Yemen, where families continue to face significant challenges due to insecurity and economic hardships. As the conflict persists, the need for humanitarian assistance and support remains critical for those affected by displacement.
