Police Report Significant Crime Activity in Aden During Third Quarter of 2024

During the months of July, August, and September 2024, police in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, reported a total of 734 security cases. This figure includes 655 criminal offenses and 79 non-criminal incidents. Authorities successfully handled 616 of these cases, showcasing their commitment to maintaining public safety.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

In their latest statement, the police detailed the apprehension of 763 suspects out of 947 identified individuals. Among those arrested, 33 were minors. Meanwhile, authorities continue to pursue 127 fugitives who remain at large. This ongoing investigation aims to bring all offenders to justice.

Impact on Victims

The report highlighted the human cost of these crimes, with 829 victims recorded. Tragically, 81 individuals lost their lives, including 76 men and five women. Additionally, 173 people sustained injuries, comprising 132 men and 41 women. Alarmingly, 30 of the victims were children, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced community safety measures.

Breakdown of Criminal Cases

The police categorized the reported incidents into 655 criminal offenses and 79 non-criminal events. They managed to solve 537 of these cases, while 55 offenses remain unsolved with no suspects apprehended. Furthermore, 63 incidents remain unidentified, highlighting areas where law enforcement must intensify efforts.

Legal Proceedings

In the third quarter, law enforcement referred 608 cases to the Public Prosecution. Investigations continue for 81 cases, and 45 criminal cases remain under active scrutiny. This ongoing commitment to thorough investigation reflects the police’s dedication to justice and community safety.

The police’s proactive measures in addressing crime in Aden demonstrate a significant effort to ensure public safety. As investigations continue, the community remains hopeful for further improvements in security and justice.
