Surge in Dengue Fever Cases in Yemen

On Wednesday, health officials reported alarming statistics regarding the dengue fever outbreak in Yemen. During the first half of 2026, the country recorded 5,786 cases and 30 fatalities in areas under the control of the legitimate government. These figures come from official data obtained by Yemen Youth Net.

Regional Impact of Dengue Fever

Taisir Al-Samahi, a health media official from the Taiz Health Office, highlighted that Aden topped the list of fatalities with 15 deaths. Following closely, Hadramout reported 7 deaths, while both Taiz and Lahij each recorded 3 fatalities. Additionally, Shabwa documented 2 deaths.

Urgent Need for Preventive Measures

Al-Samahi emphasized that these numbers reflect the widespread nature of the disease. He urged authorities to intensify efforts in combating the mosquito vectors responsible for transmitting the virus. Furthermore, he called for the elimination of mosquito breeding sites and the enhancement of epidemiological surveillance. Quick diagnosis and treatment are crucial, especially with the increased risk of dengue fever during the rainy season.

Conclusion

As Yemen faces this public health challenge, the need for immediate action becomes clear. Strengthening preventive measures and raising awareness about dengue fever can help mitigate its impact on the population.
