On Wednesday, armed militants affiliated with the Houthi militia demolished the home of a centenarian woman, Fatima Qaid Ghalib, in the Al-Adain district of Ibb Governorate. This shocking act has ignited widespread outrage and condemnation among local residents, who are deeply distressed by such blatant violations of rights.
Local sources report that the demolition was led by a man identified as Mousa Taha Ahmed Hussein, accompanied by other militia members. At the time of the incident, Ghalib was away visiting relatives in the village of Sanafi, located in the Al-Ghadiba area. The destruction of her home has not only left the structure in ruins but has also exacerbated the suffering of both the victim and her family.
According to sources close to Ghalib, she sought assistance from authorities affiliated with the militia to address her case. However, these authorities appeared to collude with the perpetrator, and interventions from mediators prevented any legal action against him. This has led to increasing frustration within the community. Ghalib’s grandchildren reported that the accused continues to roam freely within the district center, despite outstanding arrest orders, further fueling public discontent.
Journalist Ibrahim Asqeen has indicated that the attack may have been motivated by the strategic location of Ghalib’s home. The family asserts that they have held rights to the property for decades, based on an old lease agreement dating back to the victim’s ancestor, complicating the situation further.
The situation in Ibb Governorate, which is under Houthi control, is witnessing a surge in lawlessness. Incidents of property violations and violent crimes against citizens are on the rise, highlighting the complete absence of security forces capable of protecting residents from these ongoing abuses. This alarming trend reflects a deteriorating security environment, raising significant concerns among the local populace.
