The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has publicly condemned reports indicating that the self-declared Somaliland region plans to establish an embassy in occupied Jerusalem. He emphasized that this initiative is met with outright rejection from the Arab world, characterizing it as a provocation to both Arab and Islamic communities.
Aboul Gheit further articulated that such actions are indicative of an effort by Israeli authorities to gain recognition from unrecognized entities. This strategy is perceived as an attempt to legitimize Israel’s illegal occupation of East Jerusalem and the broader Palestinian territories. He warned that this initiative could lead to increased tensions and instability not only in the region but also in the Horn of Africa. The Arab League remains steadfast in its commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
In a related development, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has voiced its strong concern and condemnation regarding the media reports of Somaliland’s intention to establish an “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem. The OIC views this move as a direct challenge to the will of the international community and a violation of principles established in the United Nations Charter and its relevant resolutions.
The OIC reaffirmed that this initiative is part of Israel’s ongoing attempts to extract invalid recognition from illegitimate entities, thereby asserting its claimed sovereignty over Jerusalem. This situation represents a blatant violation of international law, leading the international community to adopt resolute positions against such actions.
