In a troubling incident that highlights the increasing violations against civilians in areas under Houthi militia control, a university student from Rima province was abducted while making his way home from the capital, Sana’a.
Local sources indicate that 25-year-old Hamza Ahmed Al-Faqih was detained at a checkpoint by Houthi security forces during his journey. He is currently being held at the First Security Administration in the Ruba area of Bani Khawli. Al-Faqih has now spent three days in custody without any legal justification for his detention.
Hamza’s brother, Ma’in Al-Faqih, conveyed his deep concerns in a Facebook post, describing Hamza as a “simple, unarmed citizen” who was arrested without cause. He stressed that this action blatantly violates legal procedures, placing full responsibility on the security administration and its affiliates for Hamza’s physical and mental well-being.
Ma’in Al-Faqih emphasized that such arbitrary practices against civilians contribute to rising public anger and societal tension towards the militia’s security forces. This incident is indicative of a broader pattern of violations in Rima province, which includes arbitrary arrests, harassment, and severe restrictions on public freedoms.
The series of events reflects a deteriorating humanitarian and human rights situation in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. There is an urgent need for a firm international response to halt these violations and safeguard the rights of civilians.
