Houthi threats to extend the abduction of lawyer Abdulmajid Sabra for an additional two years.

Houthi Threatens to Extend Abduction of Lawyer Abdulmajid Sabra for Two More Years

The family of lawyer Abdulmajid Sabra has revealed alarming developments regarding his abduction by Houthi security forces. Reports indicate that the militia plans to extend his captivity for an additional two years. This decision highlights the group’s ongoing defiance and refusal to release him, despite widespread human rights calls for his freedom.

Family Visit Uncovers Disturbing Threats

In recent developments, Walid Sabra, the brother of the abducted lawyer, shared that the family visited him at the Houthi security and intelligence prison in Sana’a last Wednesday. During this visit, a militia member known as “Abu Sari” ominously told Abdulmajid, “Do not smile… You are our guest for two years.” This statement serves as a direct threat and reveals the militia’s intention to prolong his abduction.

Intimidation Tactics Against the Family

Walid further disclosed that another Houthi official, “Abu Amir al-San’ani,” threatened him with detention simply for advocating for his brother’s release. These actions represent a clear effort to silence the family and deter them from speaking out about the case. The family views these remarks as explicit threats, underscoring the Houthi’s strategy to extend Abdulmajid’s captivity while pressuring the family to halt their media and advocacy efforts.

Background of the Case

Abdulmajid Sabra, a prominent defender of detainees, was abducted by the Houthi militia in September 2025. Since then, he has faced enforced disappearance and has been denied visits, prompting widespread condemnation from local and international human rights organizations. His continued detention reflects the Houthis’ disregard for legal norms and international standards, highlighting the urgent need for international action to secure his release.
